High School Grad

Before heading to the family reunion we will be making a pit stop in Salt Lake City to see my sister-in-law, Sarah, graduate from high school. I love this senior picture of her taken by my Aunt Jan (an up and coming photographer out of San Diego). It gives me the feeling like she has reached a certain level and is about to take the stairs to the next level of her life. She will be attending BYU next year on a scholorship. We are so proud of you Sarah.

My Young Super Reader

I really will be better about updating my blog after our family reunion, promise. We plan on leaving this weekend and we will be gone all next week so this may be my last post till I get back.

Well I've realized over the past few weeks that Aubrey at such a tender age of 10 almost eleven months old has a favorite TV show. Aubrey like her older sister has taken a liking to Super Why. She even likes it more than her Baby Einstein videos or Signing Times. I'm hoping this means that she will become a "super reader" at a young age. Only time will tell.

What a cute hiney.

They Have Arrived

Thank you all who participated in the vote for the cookbooks name. Can't Waite to Taste It: A Waite Family Cookbook has arrived! It turned out great even if there are a few minor errors I missed. That's what happens when you have no time to have anyone edit for you. The book is full of 160 pages of yummy tried and tested family recipes. For those of you who want to buy one, contact me through the email on my profile. The price came out to $24.95 + shipping. Your books will not have the errors in it. I'll be fixing that right away. A huge thank you to Blurb for the quality and professional look to the book. I loved the recipe layouts they offered.

Twilight

I just finished the Twilight series this morning. In all I have to say I liked it. As I read, like in most books I have read, there were times of frustration with certain characters especially the main character in this book. She bugged me at times but there is usually one of those types for me in any book I read. So now that I am done I allowed myself to watch the trailer for the movie. I had to wait till I was done otherwise watching it may have ruined the faces of the characters I had already in my head. I enjoy my imagination more than Hollywood's. So here is a trailer, I don't know if it is official. It was the best one I saw on YouTube, so I hope you enjoy. This will be one to look forward to in December and before that the new book in August.

Bithell Farms

It is that time of year again. The time to order wonderful frozen fruits from Bithell Farms. This is where I got my loganberries for my jam last year. I think I'm going to order marionberries this time around. They have a great selection and are willing to deliver to your area. The amount you have to buy is quite a bit so going in halvesies might be necessary. Make sure you get your orders in by June 30th to get in on this shipment.

A New Week

The break from blogging was much needed last week for many reasons. To wrap up last week in one sentence I finished my family's much anticipated cookbook, comforted my child through a nasty outbreak of hives, cleaned the house for family in town, finished the first two books in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, and enjoyed the weekend with family in town for my brother-in-laws graduation. It is so nice to start a new week, a not so busy week. It was so nice to walk into my backyard this morning and harvest two tomatoes from my tomato plants also.

I had to put in a picture of Nora all cleared up of hives for proof for my family. She really is well now. Sorry for the scary sad picture I last posted (I received some concerned calls last week).

Needless to say I am so grateful to start a new week.

Hives Attack!

Blogging will be light this week. My poor sweet child is suffering from hives. I'm hoping they only last a week. Pray your child never has to go through this. Not a fun one. Although, no sickness or outbreak ever is.

Ana Carolina & Seu Jorge- Blower's Daughter

Here is another beautiful Brazillian song to enjoy. This one is for my brother Jonathan, who served a mission in Brazil for our church. Ever since I heard this off of Design Mom by guest dad, Ryan Wright, I often go back and listen to it and the other music he shared. Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.

André Rieu's Manhã de Carnaval

A while ago Spencer and I sat down to a PBS show of Andre Rieu's: The Homecoming. I don't think I will ever forget it. I have never seen a crowd so drawn to the performer. It was like they were drawn to something that ran deeper than the music. There was not one person in the crowd that was not up and moving to the music. Someday, Andre Rieu's: The Homecoming will be a part of our dvd library.

This is not one of the performances from The Homecoming but the singers are some of the same he used in The Homecoming. I love brazilian music. This is so beautiful. Enjoy.

Mom, I Love You!

Mothers, would you not want to wake up Sunday morning with a plate full of this? Check out the tummy pleasers that My Recipes is putting out. After browsing you may want to drop a hint to your honey or children. Spencer, consider yourself hinted.

Family Picture Time

It's that time again when all the family will get together and because of that very fact the need to take a picture comes in. Well, the gals this year are to, as of right now, wear light pink and khaki. We will be out doors so I was wanting to be in a summery dress or skirt. Light pink is obviously not the hot color in this season. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I am going to wear. This so far are items I liked but can't decide. Any thoughts?

Cinco de Mayo

My family and I got together this past Sunday and we all brought Mexican themed dishes to be festive with Cinco de Mayo today. I got to be in charge of the dessert and made this amazing Mexican flan. I love everything flan and custard and creme brulee. You get me, right? Well for those who share in my love, here is the recipe:

FLAN-MEXICAN CUSTARD
Caramelize 2 tablespoons sugar and pour into pie plate. Put pie plat into a pan with 1/2-1 inch water.
In blender, beat:
6 eggs
1 can Eagle Brand milk
1 large can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pour into pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool and invert onto platter. Caramel will flow down over sides. Serves 8

Horsing Around

On Saturday I tried something different that I haven't done since a was a kid...horse back riding. My friend Connie from church owns two horses and was in need of a second rider. I was so there. It's different from the me time that I usually opt for (pedicure, massage, facial). Yet it was rewarding in it's own way. Not in the sense of relaxing my body (my muscles and groin are not thanking me that I went), but in the sense of getting out and doing something new, being outdoors and letting my mind focus on something different than the norm. It was slightly challenging because I haven't done it in so long and Leo, the horse I was on, was sensitive to my touch in guiding him so for the first little bit I was zig zagging around. But it was fun. So this week try doing something different from the norm it can be so refreshing and rewarding to the mind and soul. Thanks Connie for the great time.

This is Connie and I. If you look close you can see the sweet kid glasses I got to wear because I forgot to bring mine.

Hard at Work

Sorry that blogging has been so light lately. I have been hard at work on my family's cookbook. It is crunch time now before it needs to be submitted to get it back in time for our June family reunion. I just am now realizing how time consuming this project really is. I love working with the book program though. Check out Blurb if you haven't already.
