For some time now, Nora has been asking me questions about where we live as opposed to her favorite people in the world. She will ask questions about why Grandma (my mother-in-law), lives so far away or where is Stella her cousin in Connecticut. In answer to her questions, I would like to buy my family a US and world map. I am sure it has been hard for her to visualize my half answers. Hopefully, a map will help. I found these fun maps at Target. Two of the maps are adhesive which I think would be great and super easy to hang. But, if you know where to buy great US/world maps for kids that will be pleasing to my eyes too, please let me know. I am in the market for globes as well.

we love our map....but it is a puzzle too! the kids love putting it together!
When I was little, my mom purchased a large world map and placed it on our kitchen table and put a clear table "cloth" (I think that it was vinyl) over the top of it to protect it. We would spend tons of time during the day or certain mealtimes learning about geography. My siblings and I still talk about how cool that table cloth was!
we bought the puzzle version as well...it is a great teaching tool.
I love the table idea. A great conversation starter at dinner.
Marleen,
It's Kacey's sister, Sarah. I love your blog and read your posts often. You have such cute ideas!
Anyway, my neighbor made placemats with maps and for each month they would focus on a different country. Her kids had a lot of fun learning about different cultures and places that way.
My husband's family had maps posted all over their house. It was a good way to teach their kids geography (although I'm not too hip on decorating my ENTIRE house with Rand McNally)!
I saw some great maps at Costco not too long ago. They were priced well, too. You can sometimes find old atlases or guidebooks at used bookstores or DI as well.
Getting creative is a great way to get our kids excited about learning! There are great tools out there, we just have to be willing to go the extra mile to discover them!!!
Thanks Sarah!
