Last of the Trip

So terrifying, right? Here are some of the last pics from our great trip to visit family in Utah. A huge thank you to everyone who put up with us. We already miss you.

The Cabin

Spencer and his family love spending time up at their cabin near Kamas, UT which is just outside of Park City. We enjoy the outdoors, horse shoe games, catching up with family, fishing, food, and homemade root beer. It is not just any root beer. It is the root beer that Spencer's family have enjoyed and made generations back.

The root beer is not made with dry ice but made with yeast and sets for a period of time before consuming. For those who have grown up with this type of root beer, the drink is easy on the taste buds. For most of those married into the family, cringing is usually the choice of reaction after trying for the first time.

Still, making the homemade rootbeer is a fun tradition and although the taste of it makes me feel like I might be breaking the Word of Wisdom (no worries for those of you who might question. It has about the same amount of alcohol in it as orange juice), I make sure that I try some, if only a few sips, every time a batch is presented.

Wheeler Farm

We had to visit Wheeler Farm while in Salt Lake. I love the grounds and our kids love the geese and other farm animals. I only seemed to manage to take pictures of the geese and pig but they have all farm animals. A fun morning with the girls.

Gardner Village

We took a gander the other day to Gardner Village, located in West Jordan. They had a petting zoo and pony ride. It was both Nora's and Caleb's (Nora's closest cousin on Spencer's side), first time on a pony. They did great and even got into it by saying, "ride on cowgirl/cowboy," while throwing up one of their arms. So very cute. I thought I'd also post the indecent photo below as well. If you can read Nora's lips you'll notice the "cheese" coming out of them. There was also a very cute home decor shop in the village that I wish had their own web site. If you ever are in West Jordan, take a peek in The Village Whites Shoppe. I'm still dreaming about their cake stands.

Vacation 2

The family reunion came and went so fast. Our family had a blast up at Aspen Grove family camp this past week. There was so much to do and having child care services and all meals prepared for you topped it off. Most of our family were in a small lodge that made the living area quite cozy and even though that made for close quarters it was nice to have that time with family in that way. I wish I took more pictures but we were constantly going and I often forgot to bring the camera. Some of my favorite activities was the pottery class and painting pottery with Nora. Oh, and everyone seemed to like the cookbook too. Whew!

Vacation 1

Since Spencer was able to take off an extra day of work we took an extended stay in Utah to visit his side of the family. We had fun up at his parents cabin near Park City. Spencer took Nora fishing for the first time and had quality time playing horseshoes with the guys. I got some quiet time for reading and attempted playing horseshoes.

We ventured to Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City where Nora couldn't get enough of the animals and seemed so perplexed that they didn't have a lion which is one of her favorite animals. Then Nora and Aubrey had a hula'f a time at their cousins 1st birthday luau party and we finished off our trip by celebrating Spencer's sister, Sarah's, graduation with her. We just love hanging out with our family.

Luxurious Camping

I don't think I'm one that prefers camping. I've done quite a bit of it in my life and have roughed it out in the wild with bears no less. This doesn't mean I will never go, it just means there may have to be some coaxing before I commit to it. On the other hand give me a deluxe tent set up like this and I will have the bags packed in a jiffy. So, what's your kind of camping? Please do share.
